Groudle Holiday Village was one of the Isle of Man’s most popular coastal holiday destinations, offering visitors a unique blend of seaside accommodation, recreation, and scenic beauty. Located near Howstrake, the village became a key attraction during the Island’s tourism boom, reflecting the growth of holiday travel and the development of leisure facilities along the Douglas Bay coastline.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

The Development of Groudle Glen Holiday Village<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Groudle Glen was acquired by the Onchan Village Commissioners in July 1967. Plans to build a holiday village there became known in April 1969 when The Examiner stated that a developer was to erect holiday cottages and other tourist amenities in the lower part of the glen in co-operation with the Commissioners. In spite of the scheme being actively promoted by the Commissioners, there was no progress made and the idea lapsed.

The proposal was resurrected with the involvement of the Commissioners and the Manx Government and The Examiner reported in March 1973 that a Mr Dennis Jeavons had applied for planning consent to build 40 holiday bungalows on the land. Site work began in early June but was delayed by an arson attack in August which destroyed stocks of pitch fibre drainage pipes. In March 1974 The Examiner announced that it was expected that the first phase of the development, “..built in partnership with Onchan Commissioners who own the land and the Manx Government who are providing financial assistance..”, would be ready for the coming holiday season. In the following April, the Commissioners sold a part of the glen, including the land occupied by the holiday dwellings, to Mr Jeavons’ company, Harbour and Glen Investments Ltd.
