Established in 1929 on the site of today’s Bay View Road, the Douglas Bay Holiday Camp was created during the peak of the Isle of Man’s holiday camp era. Inspired by the success of nearby camps at Howstrake and Douglas, it briefly welcomed visitors seeking affordable seaside accommodation. However, after only three seasons of operation, the camp entered liquidation, making it a short-lived yet notable chapter in Howstrake’s tourism history.
In 1929 another entrepreneur, no doubt encouraged by the success of the Howstrake Camp and of Cunningham’s Camp in Douglas, established a camp on what is now Bay View Road. This was in existence for only three years before going into liquidation.
